Ducati finally put a plated dual sport in the catalog. The Desmo450 EDS — Enduro Street Legal — is the brand’s first modern street-legal enduro, built off the Desmo450 MX platform and stickered at **$12,995** MSRP for North America.

Ducati Media House’s Sunnyvale release (June 9, 2026) says select NA dealers get the bike **from August 2026**. TopSpeed’s September 18 follow-up frames availability as “this month” relative to that publish date. Motorcycle.com’s first look uses **2027** model-year framing for the U.S. bike — same pattern as the Desmo450 SM we covered yesterday — so this story runs as a **2027** while the August 2026 dealer window stays honest.

What EDS actually is

This is not a supermoto with knobbies bolted on, and it is not a closed-course MXer with a headlight. Ducati started from the Desmo450 MX aluminum perimeter frame, retuned the single for enduro torque, fitted **21/18** Takasago Excel wheels, and added street kit — LED headlight, mirrors, plate mount, catalytic exhaust. Wet weight without fuel is claimed around **264–264.3 lb**. Seat height sits at **38.2 inches**. The transparent **2.25 U.S. gallon** tank lets you eyeball fuel without a guess.

Engine: stock 42 hp, Racing Kit 54, Akrapovič 56

Displacement is **449.6 cc** with Desmodromic timing — Ducati’s class flex. Vs the MX: **42 mm** throttle body (not 44), lower compression **12.9:1**, dedicated cams, more crank/flywheel inertia, aluminum covers instead of magnesium, and a **6-speed** box with lighter clutch pull. Stock claimed output per Motorcycle.com: **42 hp at 6,750 rpm** and **33 lb-ft at 5,750 rpm**.

Optional Ducati Performance **Racing Kit** (exhaust, intake bits, mapping, mode selector — dealer install) raises claimed peak to **54 hp**. Add the accessory **Akrapovič** and Ducati says **56 hp**. Those electronics — DTC (4 levels), Launch Control, Engine Brake Control, riding modes, X-Link — ride with the Racing Kit path, not as freebies on the base street bike, per Motorcycle.com’s stock-vs-kit breakdown.

Suspension, brakes, tires — and the NA tire honesty note

Showa’s enduro-specific **49 mm** USD fork gets about **12.2 inches / 310 mm** of travel with softer springs than the MX. Rear Showa link shock: about **11.9 inches**. Brakes are Brembo floating calipers on Galfer discs — **260 mm** front / **240 mm** rear.

Tire honesty matters here. Motorcycle.com is clear: **North American** bikes ship on **Metzeler Karoo 4**. Other markets where the EDS is **not** street-legal get **Metzeler Six Days Extreme**. Ducati Media House copy mentions Six Days Extreme in the chassis section — that is the off-road market rubber, not the NA street-legal fitment. If you are shopping a U.S. dealer, ask for Karoo 4 on the build sheet.

Warranty conflict — check the dealer card

Sources disagree on warranty length. Motorcycle.com’s specs table lists **12 months or 80 hours**. TopSpeed lists **6 months or 40 hours**. We are not inventing a winner — treat warranty as **what your Ducati dealer / OEM warranty card says**, and note the outlet conflict if you quote a number. Prefer the Motorcycle.com table if you need a cited figure, and flag that TopSpeed differs.

Service: adaptive MID / FULL hours

Media House describes predictive maintenance: **MID** service (piston / valve check) roughly **90–120 hours**, **FULL** overhaul roughly **180–240 hours**, with the interval sliding based on a real-time engine stress index visible in X-Link. That is the OEM pitch — not a static “change oil every X miles” postcard.

Sibling context, not a second SM story

The EDS sits beside the competition-only Desmo450 SM we covered yesterday and the broader Desmo450 off-road wave. Different job: this one is the plated dual sport. This piece stays on the EDS.

Price reality

Published MSRP is **$12,995**. Freight, destination, taxes, and dealer fees are **not** itemized in the NA MSRP line we saw — TBD at the quote desk. Racing Kit and Akrapovič are extra.
