Cookie Policy

Last updated October 11, 2026

When you first visit Trail Roamer from the U.S. or most other places, a banner at the bottom of the screen asks you to choose between Accept all and Reject non-essential. Until you choose, only the essentials below are used, and closing or ignoring the banner never counts as consent. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, you'll see Google's consent message instead of our banner, with Consent, Do not consent and Manage options. AdSense's script loads there so that message can appear, but ad cookies and personalized ads stay off unless you choose Consent.

Essential (always on)

  • tr-cmp - remembers your consent choice (accepted or rejected). Stored in your browser's local storage.
  • tr-theme - remembers light or dark mode if you change it. Stored in your browser's local storage.

These stay on your device and aren't shared with anyone.

  • Google Analytics 4 (Google) - sets first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID. We use it to count page views and see how readers use the site, including scroll depth, newsletter sign-ups and clicks on related stories and retailer links.
  • Google AdSense (Google) - shows ads and may set cookies on trailroamer.com, such as __gads and __gpi, and on Google domains such as doubleclick.net, to deliver, measure and personalize ads.

If you choose Reject non-essential in our banner, the Google Analytics and AdSense scripts are never loaded, so none of their cookies are set by our pages, and you'll see no ads from us. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, choosing Do not consent in Google's message keeps ad cookies, personalized ads and Google Analytics off. Google Analytics loads there only after you choose Consent.

Affiliate partners

Clicking a retailer link, for example to Amazon or to MotoSport through the Impact network, takes you to that company's site, where it may set its own cookies to credit the referral. Those cookies are covered by the retailer's or network's own policies, not ours.

Changing your choice

In the U.S. and most other places, the button below clears your saved choice and brings our banner back. In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, it reopens Google's consent message instead, where you can change what you agreed to. You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser at any time. For more on how we handle data, see our privacy policy.
