Standards

Editorial Policy

Last updated October 10, 2026

Trail Roamer exists to give off-road riders information they can trust and act on. These are the standards every story is held to.

Sourcing

We start with primary sources: manufacturer press releases and model pages, race organizers and official results and timing, government recall notices, and land-manager orders and maps from agencies like the Forest Service and BLM. We add reporting from reputable motorcycle outlets when it helps, and we link our sources in the story so you can read them yourself. When sources disagree, we say so and explain which one we're following and why.

Prices, specs and dates come from the manufacturer or organizer. If a price or date hasn't been announced, we say it's unknown instead of guessing.

Recalls and safety stories

Recall stories start with the official record: NHTSA's recall database and the manufacturer's campaign documents. We cite the campaign number, list the affected models exactly as the campaign does, and keep confirmed facts separate from forum talk. We don't describe a recall as fixed until the manufacturer's remedy is actually available.

The first thing every recall story tells you is how to check your own bike. Enter your 17-character VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or on the manufacturer's recall checker, and contact an authorized dealer to schedule the free repair. A year, make and model search shows which bikes are included, but only a VIN check tells you whether yours still needs the work. We don't suggest workarounds that go against the manufacturer's remedy, and product links never come before the safety steps.

Spy shots and rumors

Stories about unannounced bikes are labeled as reports, not facts. We name the outlet or photographer the information came from, separate what the photos show from what people are guessing, and update the story once the manufacturer confirms details.

Photos

Most images on Trail Roamer are official photos from manufacturers, race organizers and government agencies, used to report on their products, events and decisions. Each one carries a credit to its source. We don't present stock photos as the subject of a story, and when we use a stand-in image, such as a current model in a story about its replacement, the caption says so.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it. Send corrections through our contact page with the page link and the source for the correct information. We check it, update the story, and change the updated date on the article when the fix is significant.

Independence from ads and affiliates

Advertisers and affiliate partners don't pay for coverage, don't see stories before they publish and don't get a say in what we write. Commission rates don't decide which products we recommend or how they're ranked. How affiliate links work is explained in our affiliate disclosure.

Tools and review

We use software tools, including AI-assisted drafting, to help research and write. A person on the editorial team checks the facts, sources and wording of every story before it's published, and recall and land-access stories always get that human review.

Bylines

Stories are published under the Trail Roamer Editorial Team byline. The team is responsible for everything on the site.
