Cardo Venture: The First Off-Road Helmet With a Built-In Mesh Intercom
Cardo and Leatt have built Cardo's mesh intercom and JBL speakers into the Leatt MOTO 8.5. The Venture is ECE 22.06 and DOT certified and costs $799, but battery life is still unpublished.
Every trail group has the same ritual: someone stops, flips up their goggles and starts waving at the rider who missed the turn. Cardo thinks it can end that. The Venture, announced July 1, 2026, is billed by Cardo and Leatt as the world's first off-road helmet with a fully integrated mesh intercom, and it's built on a lid a lot of dirt riders already trust.
A Leatt helmet with Cardo's brain inside
Per the joint Leatt and Cardo press release, the Venture starts with Leatt's MOTO 8.5 and builds Cardo's communication system into it rather than clipping a unit onto the side. That's the whole pitch. Plenty of riders already run a Cardo or Sena on an MX lid, but the speakers end up shoved into the cheek pads and the unit hangs off the shell. Here the speakers, microphone, wiring and control panel are part of the helmet, and Motorcycle.com's review says the battery sits in its own compartment at the rear and charges over USB-C without coming out.
The comms side
Cardo's Venture product page and spec sheet list second-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication for up to 15 riders, with a claimed range of up to 1.6 km, or about a mile. Audio comes through 40mm speakers tuned by JBL. You also get natural voice control, music sharing, a live Bluetooth intercom link for talking to riders on other brands, IP67 waterproofing and over-the-air software updates. Cardo says every electronic part is removable, serviceable and upgradable, which matters on a helmet that's going to get roosted, crashed and pressure-washed.
What Cardo hasn't published is battery capacity or a talk-time figure. Until it does, battery life is TBD, and that's the number we'd most like to see for long enduro days.
The helmet side
Protection is straight from the MOTO 8.5: a composite shell, four-density impact foam and Leatt's 360° Turbine Technology, which uses small discs meant to cut rotational and low-energy impact forces. The Venture is certified to both ECE 22.06 and DOT, so it's legal on either side of the Atlantic. Fit comes from Leatt's Pro-Fit modular pads and an Ionic+ antimicrobial liner, and the spec sheet adds emergency-release cheek pads, a double D-ring, a breakaway visor, neck brace compatibility and a hydration port.
Sizes run XS to XXL across six sizes and three shells. Cardo's spec sheet lists 1,250g (plus or minus 50g) for the bare helmet in the smaller sizes up to 1,430g in XL and XXL, and 1,470 to 1,550g with the electronics fitted. Motorcycle News reported the same figures. Motorcycle.com weighed its medium test helmet at about 2 lb 14 oz bare and 3 lb 2 oz with the system installed, so the tech costs you roughly a quarter pound.
Price, warranty and availability
The Venture is $799 in the U.S. and €799 in Europe. Enduro21 quoted £695 for the UK, while MCN listed UK pricing as still to be confirmed, so treat the pound figure as reported, not official. For context, Enduro21 notes the MOTO 8.5 alone is £399 in the UK.
Cardo backs the helmet for five years and the electronics for three. Battery coverage is two years in the EU and one year elsewhere. Enduro21 and Motorcycle.com both gave availability as late summer 2026, and the Venture is listed on Cardo's site. U.S. dealer stock and exact ship dates are TBD, so check with Cardo or your shop before counting on one for a specific ride.
Don't race with it switched on
Enduro21 makes a point worth repeating. FIM rules, and many national rules like the UK's ACU, ban two-way radio communication during competition, and riders can be disqualified. U.S. riders should check their own series rulebook too. The helmet itself may get through tech inspection, but the intercom stays off while you're racing.
Rider takeaway
If your group rides spread out in the woods or desert, an integrated mesh system on a proven Leatt shell is a real step up from a clip-on unit. $799 is a lot for an MX helmet, but it's roughly what a mid-range lid plus a decent mesh unit costs separately, and you get cleaner integration and one warranty. The unknowns are battery life and how it holds up to a season of mud. We'll update when Cardo publishes runtime figures or we get one on a trail.
