Little Giant Fire Closure: Chiwawa / Entiat ORV Trails Shut Through Oct 31
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Order 06-17-07-2026-40 closes NFS lands, roads, and trails across Wenatchee River / Entiat / Chelan districts for the Little Giant Fire from Sept. 3 through Oct. 31, 2026 unless rescinded. Dual-sport and ORV impact includes Lower Chiwawa ORV 1548, Minnow Ridge ORV 1524, and Alder Ridge 1523.
If your Cascades dual-sport or dirt loop uses the Chiwawa River corridor, Entiat River Road country, or the Lower Chiwawa / Minnow Ridge ORV network north of Leavenworth, stop and check the map before you trailer. Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Order 06-17-07-2026-40 - the Little Giant Fire closure - remains in effect through October 31, 2026 unless the Forest Service rescinds it sooner.
The official alert and order cover NFS lands, trails, and roads inside a large Wenatchee River / Entiat / Chelan district polygon. Prohibitions include entering the described area, being on listed trails or roads, and driving off NFS roads inside the closure. Motorcycle and ORV use is inside that language - this is not a hiking-only note.
ORV and dual-sport lines that matter
The Forest Service trail list explicitly includes Lower Chiwawa Trail OHV 1548, Minnow Ridge Trail OHV 1524, Alder Ridge Trail 1523, plus Chiwawa River Trail 1550 and a long stack of Entiat-side singletrack. Road closures include Chiwawa River Road 6200, Phelps Creek Road 6211, Entiat River Road 5100, Shady Pass 5900 (Entiat), and dozens of numbered FSRs spelled out in the order. If your GPS track threads those corridors, treat it as closed until you confirm a rescission.
Campgrounds and contacts
Dozens of developed sites are listed closed - including Chiwawa Horse Camp, Phelps Creek Horse Camp, Cottonwood, Nineteen Mile, Riverbend, Fox Creek, Pine Flats, and many more on both the Chiwawa and Entiat sides. Primary contact on the alert: Wenatchee River Ranger District, 509-548-2550. Re-check the Forest Service Little Giant Fire closure alert and the linked order/map PDFs the morning you leave - boundaries and reopen timing only come from the Forest Service.
