Sam Pretscherer took first overall at Round 9 of the 2026 WORCS series, the Battle in the Sand GP at Mesquite MX, winning Pro 250 and leading an SLR Honda 1-2 on the overall results. His teammate Tyler Lynn won Pro 450 ahead of Dare Demartile and Giacomo Redondi, while Cole Zeller and Colton Aeck completed the Pro 250 podium behind Pretscherer, according to the official WORCS race report.

As our Battle in the Sand preview laid out, Mesquite is deep sand and tough enough when it's dry. It wasn't dry. Practice ran in sunshine near 100 degrees, but by Sunday Tropical Storm Rachel had dropped the high to around 70 and brought a steady downpour. Surviving counted as much as speed.

Pro 450: Lynn rides clean, Semmens pushes

Points leader Mason Semmens (FMF RPM KTM) led the first lap. Lynn was second, just under two seconds back, then went to the front and set the fastest Pro 450 lap on lap 2 with a 9:14. He led every lap after that, and by the end of 12 laps he was nearly five minutes clear.

Semmens hung on in second and was less than a minute behind through lap 5. On lap 6 a mechanical problem stopped his KTM. Pushing a bike through soaked sand is brutal, and his lap 7 took close to an hour, dropping him from second to sixth. He got it back to the start area and was scored fifth, which kept him in the points lead.

Behind Lynn, Demartile was second and Redondi third. Tristun Alvarez (Kawasaki) held fourth through the closing laps. Hayden Florez was the only Pro 450 rider who didn't finish.

Pro 250: Pretscherer takes over on lap 3

Zeller (KTM) led the first two laps, with Pretscherer sitting about 2.5 seconds back. Zeller made a small mistake in the Pro Section on lap 3, Pretscherer went by, and that was it. His 9:22 on lap 2 was the fastest lap in the class. He stretched the lead by more than 15 seconds on lap 4, to a minute by lap 7, and to more than two minutes at the finish, even as the rain got heavier and lap times went past 10 minutes.

Zeller held second, and Aeck (Honda) moved into third midway through. Racer Fry (Kawasaki) was fourth at his home track, and Noah Gordon of Tucson was fifth. Kayden Lynn was sixth after nine laps, and Harlem Nelson was seventh after seven.

Woods wraps up the Women's Pro title

One championship was settled on Saturday. Lauren Woods of Mission Viejo led all five laps of the Women's Pro race on her GasGas, ran the class's quickest lap at 10:37 on lap 2 and clinched the 2026 title, her second in a row. Rachel Burton of Springville, Utah, was second on a Kawasaki, finishing four laps.

ATV: Baron cuts into Damon's lead

In Pro ATV, Beau Baron won after championship leader Travis Damon made mistakes in the Pro section, per the WORCS ATV report. Baron's best lap was a 10:27.075 on lap 5, and Damon was second. Logan Huff was third, Auston Baxter fourth and Cole Fryar fifth.

In Pro-Am ATV, Eduardo Rojas won. Bobby Troy was second, Torey Matajcich third and Daven Desilva fourth. James Saunders was listed as a DNF.

In Women's Pro ATV, Layne Fryar won with the race's fastest lap, a 10:04.036. Matajcich was second and Bailey Baron third.

The championship picture

Round 10 is the finale, and most of these fights are going the distance.

  • Pro 450: Semmens still leads, but the margin has shrunk a lot and the top three are all within striking distance.
  • Pro ATV: Damon 203, Baron 196, Huff 168. That's a seven-point fight.
  • Pro-Am ATV: Desilva 189, Rojas 175, Matajcich 167. Desilva still controls it, 14 points up.
  • Women's Pro ATV: Matajcich 205, Baron 189, Fryar 179.
  • Women's Pro: Woods is the 2026 champion.

The ATV classes finish at the La Paz County Fairgrounds in Parker, Arizona.

Rider takeaway

Lynn and Pretscherer won by staying upright while the track fell apart. On a day like that, a clean ride is speed. But the result that may decide the season is Semmens pushing a dead KTM through wet sand for close to an hour to save fifth.
