Belgium Ends a 13-Year Wait at Ernée Without Winning a Heat
Lucas Coenen, Liam Everts, and Sacha Coenen gave Belgium the Chamberlain Cup at Ernée with 23 points and no heat wins. Spain took its first Nations podium on 26. The USA was fifth on 53, one back of Latvia, and host France fell to 10th on 90.
Belgium won the 2026 FIM Motocross of Nations at Ernée without winning a heat. The Chamberlain Cup, the country's first since 2013, came from 23 points at Circuit Raymond Demy once the worst score was dropped.
Lucas Coenen went 3-5 on the KTM in MXGP. Liam Everts, Stefan Everts' son, went 4-4 on a Husqvarna in Open. Sacha Coenen went 12-7 on the other KTM in MX2. mxgpresults.com has those six finishes, and Vurbmoto prints the same card. Romain Febvre won Race 1. Jeffrey Herlings won Race 2 and Race 3. Get Dirt lines that up with 2013: no heat win, just finishes Belgium could live with.
Nations scoring is a low point game. Six finishes, throw out the worst, add what is left. Belgium's discard was Sacha Coenen's 12. What stayed was a 3, a 5, a 4, a 4, and a 7. That is 23. Nobody on the team had to win a race. All three had to come back inside the numbers.
Spain made them earn the margin. The total is 26, three back, and Get Dirt calls second Spain's first Nations podium. Jorge Prado went 2-2 in the MXGP races. The score Spain could throw away was a 36 from Francisco Garcia in Race 2. The Netherlands took third on 34, and Herlings is the reason that number is even that low. He swept the Open races 1-1 on the Honda. He took both wins, and the Netherlands still stood on the bottom step.
One point, not a last-lap pass, split the next two. Latvia finished fourth on 52, which Get Dirt calls the country's best result at the event. The USA was fifth on 53. Cooper Webb (Husqvarna) led the American line with a 6-6 in the Open races. Julien Beaumer (KTM) went 10-17. Levi Kitchen (Kawasaki) was 25th in Race 1, and that was the score the USA dropped. His 14th in Race 2 is the one that stayed. Fifth, by a point, with the steady ride already a pair of sixths.
France had led qualifying. On Sunday the hosts were 10th on 90. Febvre's Race 1 win and his third in Race 3 were real, and they could not carry the crashes. Mathis Valin crashed out of Race 1 and came back to 11th in Race 2. Tom Vialle retired in Race 2 and Race 3, and the sheet has him 38th and 37th. Drop the 40 and France is still on 90. Italy was sixth on 69.
Final order
1. Belgium, 23
2. Spain, 26
3. Netherlands, 34
4. Latvia, 52
5. USA, 53
6. Italy, 69
10. France, 90
If you are the third rider on a Nations team, study this Sunday before you study the winners. Everts' best on the day was fourth, and that 4-4 is what let Belgium throw out a 12 and take the Cup. Herlings won twice and the Netherlands were still third. Febvre won Race 1 for the home country, and crashes from Valin and Vialle left France 10th. Bring the number you can repeat. The heat win is optional.
