Progressive Grand National Cross Country Series - AMA National woods racing across the East and Midwest.
The Grand National Cross Country Series, known as GNCC, is America's best-known woods racing championship. Events run on long, natural-terrain loops through woods, fields, creeks and hills, mostly across the East and Midwest, and the motorcycle program is a full day of racing: amateurs and youth riders take their turns, and the pros close out the weekend with a three-hour race.
The premier class is XC1 Open Pro, with XC2 250 Pro and XC3 125 Pro-Am below it, and there's a deep amateur field split by bike size, age and skill level, including women's classes. ATVs race the same venues on separate days. Riders pit along the course and refuel during the race, which makes pit strategy and fitness as important as raw speed.
The season usually runs from late winter into the fall at a mix of farms, resorts and private properties that host the series year after year. Some of the best known include Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia, the Ironman in Indiana and the John Penton GNCC in Ohio.
