Alpinestars Tech 7 Enduro Gore-Tex Boots: Is the $599.95 Upgrade Worth It?

Alpinestars' new top Tech 7 is on sale in the US at $599.95, $70 more than the Drystar version. The extra money buys a Gore-Tex membrane and Gore's dry guarantee, not a different sole. Here's who should pay it.

If your riding season doesn't stop when the leaves come down, wet feet are the thing that ends the day early. Alpinestars' answer for 2027 is the Tech 7 Enduro Gore-Tex boot, and it's on sale in the US now for $599.95. That makes it the most expensive boot in the Tech 7 family, and the obvious question is whether it's worth $70 more than the Drystar version that already promised to keep you dry.

Alpinestars first showed the boot as the headline item in its 2027 off-road collection back in August, as Enduro21 reported. ADV Pulse confirmed US pricing and availability on October 12, and the Alpinestars US store now lists it in one color, Heather Gray, in sizes 5 through 16.

Where it sits in the Tech 7 family

There are now four adult Tech 7 boots, and Alpinestars' US store lists them at these prices:

The step from the plain Tech 7 to the Enduro is about the sole. The step from the Enduro to the Drystar adds a waterproof membrane for just $10. The step to the Gore-Tex boot is the big one, at $70 over the Drystar and $80 over the standard Enduro.

What the extra $70 actually buys

Strip away the marketing and the difference is the membrane. The Drystar boot uses Alpinestars' own waterproof, breathable Drystar membrane built into the chassis. The Gore-Tex boot swaps that for a Gore-Tex membrane, which Alpinestars says keeps rain out while letting sweat escape. ADV Pulse notes that it also carries Gore's "Guaranteed to Keep You Dry" promise, and that Alpinestars hasn't described any change to the gaiter or sealing compared with the Drystar. Both boots use a soft microfiber gaiter to help keep water from pouring in over the top.

That matters for how you think about creek crossings. A membrane keeps water from soaking through the boot. It can't stop water that comes over the top of a boot you've sunk past the shin, so the Gore-Tex version isn't a license to wade deeper than you would in the Drystar.

What you're paying for, then, is the Gore-Tex name, Gore's guarantee and, per ADV Pulse, a higher level of waterproofing and breathability. Neither Alpinestars nor ADV Pulse puts numbers on that, and we haven't ridden the boot, so we can't tell you how much drier or cooler it feels on the pegs.

The enduro sole

The part of this boot that makes it an enduro boot rather than a motocross boot is underneath. Alpinestars lists a replaceable one-piece, dual-compound vulcanized rubber sole built into a multi-density foot base. A wear indicator shows a red layer when the sole is ready to be replaced, and a Kevlar layer above it helps keep the boot's structure intact as the tread wears down. ADV Pulse adds that the toe has horizontal ribbing for slick surfaces, and the profile is flatter side to side with more aggressive grip spikes for mud and loose ground. That's the stuff that helps when you're off the bike pushing up a greasy climb.

ADV Pulse says the latest Tech 7 Enduro and Drystar boots share that same sole, so grip isn't a reason to choose the Gore-Tex version over the cheaper ones.

The rest of the boot

Everything else follows the current Tech 7 recipe. Alpinestars lists a TPU lower shell with separate left and right foot shapes and a slimmer shifter area, a metal shank, a medial and lateral double-pivot ankle system, and shock-absorbing inserts in the front bellow. TPU covers the toes, foot, heel, ankle, calf and shin, with extra-hard compounds at the toe box and heel and a TPU bridge over the Achilles. The inner panel gets an enlarged rubber insert for grip on the bike and resistance to heat and wear. Closure is by polymer buckles on aluminum frames with self-aligning quick-release action, plus a hook-and-loop shin closure.

Is it replacing the Drystar?

Alpinestars hasn't said. ADV Pulse reports that the company hasn't stated whether the Gore-Tex boot will eventually replace the Drystar as the waterproof option. For now the 2027 Tech 7 Enduro Drystar is still listed on the Alpinestars US store at $529.95, in Dark Gray, Mid Gray and Bright Red.

European riders get a different look. Alpinestars' EU store lists the boot in Black Dark Gray at €599.95, while US buyers get Heather Gray only.

Who should pay for it

If you ride wet fall and winter trails every weekend, cross creeks as a matter of routine and spend long days in the saddle where damp socks turn into cold feet, the Gore-Tex boot is the one in the family built for you, and Gore's guarantee is worth something if a membrane ever lets you down.

If you mostly ride dry dirt and only see rain a few times a year, the Drystar gets you a waterproof Tech 7 Enduro for $70 less, and the standard Enduro gets you the same sole for $80 less. Either way, try them on before you buy, since we don't have independent fit or weight figures for the Gore-Tex version yet.
