CARB Filing Points to 2027 Ducati DesertX Rally With 890cc V2
A revised California Air Resources Board Executive Order dated Sept. 25, 2026 certifies a 2027 DesertX Rally on Ducati's 890 cc V2 twin - the first solid evidence of a V2 Rally. Ducati has not announced the bike. CARB does not publish suspension, weight, price, or timing.
California paperwork just outed a bike Ducati has not put on a stage yet. Per TopSpeed's Oct. 6 report, the California Air Resources Board signed revised Executive Order M-030-0374-1 on Sept. 25, 2026 - and that amendment certifies a 2027 DesertX Rally on the new 890 cc V2 twin. That is the first solid public evidence of a V2-generation DesertX Rally. Ducati has not announced the model.
What the CARB order actually says
TopSpeed's read of the filing is clear on the engine swap and quieter on everything else. The original order for the 890 cc DesertX - M-030-0374, dated March 2, 2026 - listed only the standard DesertX. The Sept. 25 revision keeps the same emissions numbers and adds DesertX Rally to the certified-model list. That makes this an all-new Rally entry under the V2 engine family, not a simple carryover of today's 937 cc DesertX Rally.
The revised order lists both DesertX and DesertX Rally twice, each pair split by test weight (EIM) and evaporative family - the fuel-system bucket CARB cares about. The paperwork does not spell out why. TopSpeed notes the same split showed up on earlier 937 cc DesertX orders and points to Ducati's optional auxiliary tank as the likely reason. That is inference from how past DesertX filings looked, not a Ducati confirmation.
One important limit, because CARB is an air board, not a press kit: Executive Orders certify engine, emission controls, and fuel system. They do not publish suspension travel, chassis details, wet weight, MSRP, or a ship date. Anything you want to know about how a V2 Rally would ride is still unconfirmed. Ducati has not shown the bike.
Why this matters for the DesertX family
The DesertX V2 already replaced the standard bike's 937 cc Testastretta with Ducati's 890 cc V2. Per Ducati USA's published V2 sheet, that twin is rated 110.3 hp at 9,000 rpm and 92 Nm at 7,000 rpm, with a claimed wet weight without fuel of 209 kg (461 lb) and 45,000 km (28,000 mi) valve checks. Ducati Media House's Feb. 25, 2026 DesertX V2 launch framed the bike around that engine, a dedicated aluminum monocoque, and revised Kayaba suspension on the standard model.
A Rally nameplate on the same EO is the natural next step - and a clear signal that the 937 cc DesertX / Rally / Discovery generation is on its way out in the U.S. paperwork lane. Ducati's North American site still lists the older Rally alongside the V2, so the showroom has not flipped yet. TopSpeed also flags that Discovery never appeared by marketing name in earlier CARB orders, so a V2 Discovery could theoretically hide under a DesertX listing if weight and fuel system match. That is speculation on top of a filing, not a reveal.
What the current Rally is - and what we are not inventing
Until Bologna puts a V2 Rally on a World Première slide, the honest preview is today's outgoing bike. The current DesertX Rally still runs the 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin at a claimed 110 hp at 9,250 rpm and 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm. Ducati USA lists 250 mm / 240 mm of wheel travel, a wet weight without fuel of 211 kg (465 lb), and the usual Rally kit: closed-cartridge KYB, Excel-rimmed spokes, billet controls, carbon sump guard, and mass-colored plastics. TopSpeed puts the current Rally at $23,995 at the top of today's DesertX ladder.
Expectation for a V2 Rally, based only on how Ducati stepped the first Rally past the standard DesertX: same recipe - more off-road suspension and protection on top of the already-announced V2 platform. That is pattern-matching, not a spec sheet. We are not assigning the unannounced bike a travel figure, a weight, a price, or a dealer-arrival month.
Timing: World Première is already rolling
Ducati's 2027 World Première series is underway. On Oct. 1, 2026, Ducati Media House presented the Multistrada V4 S Grand Tour - North American dealers from February 2027 at $30,995. EICMA in Milan lands in early November. The last DesertX Rally offers a useful calendar: it first showed in CARB Executive Order M-030-0310 dated May 31, 2023 (CARB PDF) and Ducati revealed it that October. A filing in late September does not guarantee an October or EICMA drop - it just means the emissions paperwork is already ahead of the marketing.
We could not locate a publicly posted PDF for M-030-0374-1 or the March original M-030-0374 on CARB's highway-motorcycle EO pages at publish time. CARB's own listings note that some scanned orders are available only on request. The EO numbers, dates, and model-list change above follow TopSpeed's reporting of those orders. If CARB posts the PDFs later, that primary link should replace the secondary cite.
Where this sits next to other 2027 rally news
The dual-sport / ADV desk has already logged other 2027 rally-shaped machines this cycle - including the KTM 690 Rally and the Kove 350 Rally. Those were OEM unveils with published specs. This DesertX item is different: it is a California certification leak, not a launch. Treat it that way until Ducati talks.
Rider takeaway
CARB's revised EO M-030-0374-1 (Sept. 25, 2026) certifies a 2027 DesertX Rally on the 890 cc V2 engine - first hard evidence of a V2 Rally, per TopSpeed. Ducati has not announced the bike. Expect a Rally-style step up from the standard DesertX V2, but do not invent travel, weight, price, or timing from an emissions order. Watch World Première and EICMA for the real reveal.

FAQ
- Did Ducati announce a DesertX V2 Rally?
- No. As of this draft, Ducati has not announced a V2 Rally. The evidence is a revised CARB Executive Order (M-030-0374-1, Sept. 25, 2026) reported by TopSpeed that lists a 2027 DesertX Rally under the 890 cc V2 engine family.
- What does a CARB Executive Order prove about the bike?
- It certifies engine, emission controls, and fuel system for California sale. It does not publish suspension travel, chassis details, wet weight, MSRP, or a release date.
- What engine would a V2 Rally use?
- Per the TopSpeed read of EO M-030-0374-1, the certified 2027 DesertX Rally is on the same 890 cc V2 twin already used in the announced DesertX V2 (Ducati USA: 110.3 hp @ 9,000 rpm, 92 Nm @ 7,000 rpm).
- When might Ducati reveal it?
- Unknown. World Première 2027 is already running and EICMA is early November. The first DesertX Rally appeared in a May 31, 2023 CARB order and was revealed that October - a useful pattern, not a schedule.
