Roof of Africa 2026 Preview: HEWC Round 6 Lands in Lesotho

The FIM Hard Enduro World Championship returns to Lesotho for the Roof of Africa on September 23–26, with registration, time trials, the Deep Mountain Loop and Final Ascent building toward Round 6.

The Roof of Africa is next on the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship calendar, and the Lesotho weekend starts before the first timed mountain run. Registration and technical checks begin Wednesday, September 23, ahead of three days of competition in the Maloti Mountains.

The official Roof of Africa programme lists Wednesday for arrival and registration, Thursday for the time trial, Friday for race day two and Saturday for race day three. The FIM supplementary regulations put administrative control at the Avani Lesotho Hotel and Casino from 10:00 to 17:00 on September 23, followed by technical control from 17:00 to 18:00.

Four classes, one championship points class

The event’s public class guide lists Gold, Silver, Bronze and Iron. Gold is the FIM championship class: the 2026 regulations say riders must be at least 16 and that FIM points are awarded only in Gold, with motorcycle capacity open in both two-stroke and four-stroke categories. The other classes give the wider Roof field its own routes and its own way to measure a hard weekend in the mountains.

That split matters at the Roof. It is not one identical course repeated for every rider. The event describes three mountain days across roughly 250 to 350 kilometers, while the FIM Gold-class format sets a 110–120-kilometer Friday and two 38-kilometer Saturday laps for the championship field.

Thursday: time trial and starting order

For Gold riders, Thursday’s time trial runs to Music Box. The FIM format calls for two laps, with the fastest lap counting, individual starts at 30-second intervals and both runs required. Those times carry into the overall result, so the opening day is more than a warm-up — it establishes the first piece of the cumulative clock.

The FIM regulations also set the Gold starting order from championship standings, the previous year’s overall result and entry date. That gives the opening run real race shape without turning it into a separate winner-take-all sprint.

Friday’s Deep Mountain Loop, Saturday’s Final Ascent

A September 13 report from Lesotho Tribune identifies Friday’s route as the Deep Mountain Loop and Saturday’s closer as the Final Ascent, based on the organizers’ event briefing. The report places Friday’s start and finish at Music Box, with the route reaching through Bushmans Pass and a service point near Metolong Dam.

The FIM document confirms the championship mechanics behind those names: Friday is a timed 110–120-kilometer course with two unassisted fuel stops and one assisted service point. Saturday is a timed 38-kilometer loop ridden twice, with service between laps. Navigation is part of the job on both days, with the regulations calling for a combination of GPS navigation and marked route.

The title fight comes to Lesotho

Roof of Africa is Round 6 of the 2026 HEWC, and it arrives with the championship lead already established after Abestone.
