Michael Mosiman Joins Quad Lock Honda's 250 Rebuild for 2027
The 2022 San Diego 250SX winner leaves Star Yamaha for a Quad Lock Honda 250 program that now has more American Honda backing, Kevin Windham in a hands-on role and Cameron McAdoo in the same truck.
Michael Mosiman is going red. The Californian who won a 250SX West main event in 2022 and has spent the last three seasons on a Star Yamaha YZ250F will race a Honda CRF250R for Quad Lock Honda in 2027, across Monster Energy AMA Supercross, Pro Motocross and the SMX Playoffs. The team made it official on October 22.
It's a bigger deal than one rider changing colors. Quad Lock Honda has spent the last few weeks pointing itself almost entirely at the 250 class, and in barely two weeks it has put Mosiman alongside Cameron McAdoo, a three-time 250SX main-event winner. Back in January at San Diego, those two finished second and third behind Haiden Deegan, per the official results. They'll now share a truck.
A team that has changed direction
Quad Lock Honda isn't the same operation it was in the spring. Earlier this month the end of World Supercross cost it Joey Savatgy's 2027 deal, and team owner Yarrive Konsky said the focus was moving firmly to the United States. The Mosiman release, which Racer X published in full, lays out what that looks like: more backing from American Honda, a 250 program built to contend for titles, and Kevin Windham in a hands-on role covering rider development, testing and performance.
Windham is the piece Mosiman keeps coming back to. Per the release, he'd watched the team build since 2020 and saw its direction, resources and the Windham partnership as the right setting for his next step. GateDrop carried the same release.
What Mosiman, Konsky and Honda said
Mosiman, in the team release: "I've watched this team grow and build momentum over the years. They've won races in the 250 class and achieved podiums in the 450 class. They seem to have their riders' backs and do everything in their power to help them achieve their goals."
He went on: "I want to reach my potential and see how good I can become as an athlete. I pushed to be a part of this program because I believe this is a place where I can progress my skills, develop the motorcycle and put myself in a position to fight for championships. Kevin Windham's involvement was a big part of that decision, and I'm excited about what we can accomplish together."
Konsky, the team's founder and principal, didn't hedge either: "Michael is one of the most talented riders in the class. His race win, championship result and career performances demonstrate what he can do, he has claimed two podiums this year and many top fives." He added: "We're building a program around winning, not simply participating. American Honda has stepped up its support, Kevin is committed to helping us develop the riders and the team, and we're putting the right resources in place."
Jeff Weiner, Assistant Racing Manager for American Honda, gave the factory's view: "Michael is an extremely talented rider with proven race-winning ability and experience competing at the front of the 250 class. We recognise the importance of supporting competitive teams and riders, and we're looking forward to seeing what Michael and Quad Lock Honda can achieve together in 2027."
Cycle News framed it simply as Mosiman finding his 2027 ride and switching from Yamaha to Honda, and MX Vice quoted the team's own social post: "A proven race winner with unfinished business. We're ready to get to work."
The race record
Mosiman turned pro in 2017, and the release says his amateur years included multiple podiums at Loretta Lynn's. His signature night came on January 22, 2022, when he won the San Diego 250SX West main on a Troy Lee Designs GasGas. It was GasGas's first 250SX main-event win. He went on to finish third in the 2022 West championship with five podiums.
He also brings speed from this year. Mosiman finished third at San Diego in January and then second at Anaheim 2, where he grabbed the holeshot and led most of the main before Deegan got by. Yamaha's report says that moved him to second in the West standings. According to Racer X, he had two podiums and four top-five finishes in 2026 250SX before injury cut his season short, and he ended up eighth in the West.
Injuries have been the hard part
The flip side is health, and the release doesn't hide it. In 2023, a hard hit to the head put him out of Supercross from Daytona on, and a crash at Hangtown left him with a right shoulder injury that needed surgery and ended his Pro Motocross season. In 2024, a few months after joining Star Yamaha, he fractured his neck in a crash while preparing for the Fox Raceway National and sat out the summer.
This year hurt too. In March, while getting ready for Birmingham, he dislocated his elbow, broke his radius and broke several bones in his hand and fingers. At that point he was third in the West standings. He came back for the outdoors and, per Racer X, put together four top-ten overalls and ninth in the 250 standings, with his finishes on the Pro Motocross results page. Then he broke his collarbone in free practice at the first SMX Playoff round in Ohio. Across three years at Star, Racer X counts four podiums and 22 top-ten finishes in SX and MX.
Mosiman's own take in the Honda release: "It's a brutal sport, and unfortunately injuries are part of it. Setbacks have not been easy but nothing worth doing ever is. I still believe I can win. The setbacks are just going to make the story even better." He finished with: "I've continued to show the speed, and I believe the right people have seen that. Yarrive and Kevin believe in me, and that means a lot. I'm looking forward to getting to work, building consistency and giving myself every opportunity to fight for a championship."
He'll also run national number 29 in 2027, Racer X reports, the same number he carried in his 2022 winning season.
What it means for the 2027 250 field
The 250 class has been reshuffled hard this fall. Nate Thrasher left Star Yamaha for Pro Circuit Kawasaki, Red Bull KTM added Ryder DiFrancesco and Daxton Bennick to make it a four-rider 250 program, and now Star loses another rider who has stood on a 250SX podium this year.
For Quad Lock Honda, McAdoo and Mosiman give it two veteran 250 riders who both turned pro in 2017, both have won 250SX mains and both have had to come back from serious injuries. Neither the McAdoo nor the Mosiman announcement says which coast either will race, so don't assume they'll split East and West or line up together until the team says so. Konsky's McAdoo release called him "the first major piece" of a broader 250 program, so the roster may not be finished.
The question with Mosiman has never really been speed. He has run up front in 2022, 2025 and 2026. It's whether he can stay on the bike for a full season. A team that's openly rebuilding around 250 titles, with Windham involved in testing and development, is betting he can.
Anaheim 1 opens the 2027 Supercross season on January 9.
Rider takeaway
Mosiman to Quad Lock Honda is a smart, high-upside signing with a real health asterisk. He has won a 250SX West main, finished third in a West title fight, and stood on the box twice this January. If he lines up healthy at Anaheim on the number 29 CRF250R, Honda's satellite 250 effort has a rider who can win on a good night, and with McAdoo in the same truck, it's suddenly a team the 250 favorites have to keep an eye on.
